Bank of England
Senior Manager, Data Management
Role Introduction
The Bank of England is the UK’s central bank. Each of our 5,000 plus people is committed to public service and dedicated to our mission of promoting the good of the people of the United Kingdom by maintaining monetary and financial stability.
The Data & Analytics Transformation (DAT) Directorate is responsible for delivering the Bank’s Data & Analytics (D&A) Strategy, including migrating data and analytical processes to the cloud, strengthening how the Bank acquires and shares data, and embedding data literacy across all roles. DAT operates with a collaborative and inclusive culture and plays a critical role in driving change across the Bank.
The Data Strategy Implementation Division (DSID) sits at the heart of this work. DSID enables colleagues across the Bank to make effective use of data and analytics by providing core tools, platforms, services, training and specialist support. The division comprises a broad range of specialist skills and delivers a number of critical Bank-wide services.
We are now seeking an experienced and collaborative leader to head the Data Management Hub (DMH) within DSID. This is an important leadership role at the centre of the Bank’s data transformation agenda, with responsibility for leading the Bank’s enterprise data management capabilities and services.
The successful candidate will lead the teams responsible for the Bank’s data governance, metadata management, and master and reference data services. They will oversee the continued operation and improvement of key enterprise services, including the Data Management Policy and Advice Service, the Find and Describe Service, and the Master and Reference Data Service, ensuring these capabilities continue to support the Bank’s strategic use of data.
The role will involve setting a clear strategy for enterprise data management and governance, while leading the team through a period of significant change as the Bank continues its transition to cloud-based data platforms. Working closely with colleagues across product, operations, technology and design, the successful candidate will need to build strong relationships across a highly complex stakeholder environment and help ensure that data management is viewed as an enabling capability across the organisation.
As part of the DSID leadership team and the wider DAT senior management community, the Senior Manager, Data Management will also contribute to the strategic direction of a critical area of the Bank. The role includes responsibility for leading and developing teams, fostering an inclusive and high-performing culture, and supporting the Bank’s wider inclusion agenda.
Candidates will bring a strong track record of leadership and team development, with experience shaping and implementing enterprise-wide data management capabilities. They will have excellent stakeholder management skills, experience leading organisational change, and expertise in modern cloud-based data services, including Databricks on Microsoft Azure. Experience of working in, or with, the public sector would be advantageous.
