Role Introduction

Help shape a fairer future, strengthen communities and protect our natural world.

Esmée Fairbairn Foundation is one of the UK’s largest independent funders, backing organisations and people with bold ideas to drive lasting social and environmental change.

Founded in 1961, the Foundation manages a £1.3bn endowment and distributes more than £50m annually through grants and social and impact investments. Our work is focused on three interconnected aims: improving our natural world, securing a fairer future and strengthening the bonds within communities across the UK.  Alongside our funding, we use a wide range of tools to support change; including social investment, convening partnerships, and commissioning research.

We are now seeking to appoint new Trustees to join our engaged, thoughtful and collaborative Board at an important moment for both the Foundation and the wider sector. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience in environmental and climate-related fields, local government and community-led work.

We are looking for individuals who bring strategic insight, sound judgement and a strong commitment to Esmée Fairbairn Foundation’s values and mission. Successful candidates will help guide the long-term direction of the Foundation and contribute to ensuring our governance reflects the diverse communities and issues we support.

This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to one of the UK’s most respected philanthropic organisations and to help shape meaningful change across society.
