Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
Non-Executive Directors
Role Introduction
Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is an integrated care trust providing hospital and community health services for the people of Hackney, the City of London and surrounding communities. From Homerton Hospital, Mary Seacole Continuing Care Nursing Home and a wide network of community and home‑based services delivered across more than 60 partner sites, the Trust serves one of the most diverse populations in the country. With more than 3,800 staff, Homerton has built a strong reputation for kindness, safety and responsiveness, alongside recognition for high‑quality training, research and early adoption of approaches that support better, safer integrated care. The Trust enters this next phase from a position of strong performance, with a sustained focus on quality, patient safety and financial discipline. In April 2026 it launched a new five‑year strategy focused on integrated care, better value through people and resources, and innovation that improves lives.
The Trust is now seeking to appoint two Non‑Executive Directors to join its Board at a pivotal moment. These appointments are central to the Board’s collective responsibility for setting strategic direction, ensuring effective governance and providing independent challenge, scrutiny and assurance to the executive team. Working closely with the Chair, Chief Executive and fellow Board members, Non‑Executive Directors will help ensure the Trust continues to deliver safe, high‑quality and compassionate care, remains financially sustainable, and responds effectively to rising demand and complexity within a pressured NHS environment. The roles are intended to strengthen Board capability in areas that are critical to the Trust’s future, including senior clinical leadership, quality and patient safety, digital transformation and innovation, and experience of large‑scale strategic change and financial management.
The Trust is looking for individuals with significant senior or Board‑level experience gained in large, complex organisations. Candidates will bring credibility and insight in at least one of the priority areas, alongside a strong understanding of good governance and the distinct role of a Non‑Executive Director in providing oversight, assurance and constructive challenge. They will demonstrate sound judgement, the ability to interpret complex information and the confidence to question effectively, while building strong, respectful relationships around the Board table. A clear commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, to the values and principles of the NHS, and to putting patients, staff and communities at the heart of decision‑making is essential. The Trust is particularly keen to hear from individuals who understand the communities it serves and who can bring different perspectives, lived experience and professional insight to Board discussions.
