Role Introduction

MHA is one of the UK’s largest charitable care providers, with a proud 80-year heritage and a mission to help people live later life well. Each year, we support over 18,000 older people through our network of care homes, retirement living communities, and community-based services that tackle loneliness and isolation. Guided by our values and faith-based heritage, we nurture mind, body and spirit, delivering high-quality, person-centred care with compassion and purpose.

With an annual income of over £283 million, MHA is a respected and financially robust organisation. Our services are delivered by more than 5,800 dedicated staff and supported by over 2,400 volunteers, alongside charitable giving which enables distinctive services such as chaplaincy and music therapy. As we enter an exciting new phase under our strategy, People, Places and Processes: Together as One MHA, we are shaping a more integrated and future-ready organisation.

As Director of Operations, you will play a pivotal role as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, leading and shaping operational services across our care homes and retirement living portfolio. You will be responsible for ensuring consistently high standards of quality, safety and performance, while delivering a joined-up operating model that enhances outcomes for older people and supports long-term sustainability.

Working closely with the Chief Executive, Board and senior colleagues, you will play a central role in delivering our strategy and business plan, ensuring that our services consistently provide high-quality, person-centred care and support. You will also build strong relationships with regulators, local authorities and sector partners, representing MHA externally and contributing to wider sector thinking.

We are seeking an experienced, values-led leader with a strong track record of delivering high-quality services at scale within health or social care. You will bring significant senior leadership experience across multi-site operations, alongside commercial awareness, strategic insight and the ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams. A clear understanding of regulated environments and a commitment to equality, inclusion and compassionate leadership are essential.

This is a rare opportunity to join a respected, purpose-driven organisation at a critical point in its development, shaping services that make a meaningful difference to thousands of older people across the UK.

The role is based on a hybrid working model, with time spent at our Derby head office and regular travel across England and Wales.
