Home Office
Director of Communications & Engagement
Role Introduction
The Home Office sits at the centre of the UK’s most high-profile and complex issues - shaping the national conversation on security, policing, migration and public safety. In a world of fragmented media and declining trust, how we communicate has never mattered more.
We are seeking an exceptional Director of Communications & Engagement to transform how the Home Office connects with the public.
This is not a traditional communications role. It is an opportunity to redefine how government tells its story.
As the department’s most senior communications leader, you will advise the Home Secretary and Permanent Secretary, leading a multidisciplinary team to deliver modern, insight-driven communications that reach millions. You will embed communications at the heart of policy, drive high-impact campaigns, and lead in moments of national scrutiny and crisis.
At its core, this role is about storytelling at scale. You will craft clear, human narratives that bring complex policies to life - connecting government priorities to real-world experiences. You will harness digital, data and emerging technologies to engage audiences where they are, building trust through authentic, compelling content.
You will play a leading role in the wider transformation of Government Communications - shifting from reactive, press-led activity to integrated, always-on engagement that drives behaviour change and delivers measurable impact.
We are looking for a bold, creative and politically astute leader: an accomplished storyteller, a trusted senior adviser, and a driver of transformation.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the voice of one of the UK’s most important departments - and to redefine how government connects with citizens for a new era.
