Role Introduction

Chair the Organisation That Is Giving 70 Million Children Their Digital Future.

Since its launch in 2016, the BBC Micro:bit has reached more than 70 million children across the world - a small device with an extraordinary impact. Behind it is the Micro:bit Educational Foundation, a not-for-profit whose mission is to inspire every child to create their best digital future. At a time when digital skills are more important than ever, and when access to them remains unequal, the Foundation is doing vital work: equipping young people, and the teachers who support them, with the tools and confidence to become creators of technology, not merely its consumers.

Supported by world-class partners including the BBC, Arm, Microsoft, Google, UNICEF and the FIFA Foundation, the Micro:bit platform encompasses hardware, software, AI tools and a rich library of classroom resources - all open source, all designed to be locally relevant, and all focused on reaching the children who need it most, including girls and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. As the Foundation embarks on its next three-year strategy, it is seeking an exceptional individual to serve as its new Chair.

We are looking for someone with senior leadership experience, ideally at board level, who combines genuine passion for education and technology with the diplomacy and interpersonal skill to lead a high-profile, multi-stakeholder board. You will be a strategic thinker with the ability to see the long-term picture, and a communicator who can engage and inspire partners, funders and policymakers alike.

Above all, you will share the Foundation's belief that every child, wherever they grow up and whatever their background, deserves the opportunity to shape the digital world they will inhabit. If that ambition excites you, we would very much like to hear from you.
