Role Introduction

London School of Theology is one of the largest theological colleges in the UK and Europe, with a heritage dating back to the 1940s. Based in Northwood, it has built a global reputation for rigorous evangelical scholarship combined with a strong commitment to spiritual formation and community life. The School offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees, alongside lifelong learning opportunities, and serves a diverse, international student body preparing for ministry and wider vocations.

The Principal is the spiritual, academic and organisational leader of the School, providing overall direction to faculty, staff and students. Working closely with the Board of Trustees and Executive Team, the Principal will shape and deliver strategic priorities, oversee academic excellence and institutional governance, and ensure the continued development of a vibrant Christian community. The role also carries an important external dimension, acting as a key ambassador for the School across the Church, higher education and wider public life, while leading on financial sustainability, student growth and the next stage of key strategic initiatives, including Taught Degree Awarding Powers.

The successful candidate will bring a strong alignment with the School’s evangelical mission and values, alongside proven leadership within a complex academic or comparable environment. They will demonstrate spiritual leadership, integrity and the ability to lead with humility and conviction, combined with strategic, financial and organisational acumen. With excellent communication skills and cultural intelligence, they will be able to inspire a diverse community, foster academic excellence, and represent the institution with credibility and authority at the highest levels.
