Role Introduction

Wrekin College (11–18) and Wrekin Prep (4–11) occupy a beautiful 100-acre campus on the edge of Wellington in central Shropshire. Offering both day and boarding provision, Wrekin has a proud history and a strong sense of community, combining tradition with a forward-thinking, innovative approach to education. Known locally as “The School in the Garden”, the schools benefit from outstanding academic, sporting and cultural facilities and are united by a clear mission: to provide a transformative education that enables every pupil to discover and become their best self.

The Bursar is a pivotal senior leadership role, working in close partnership with the Heads and Governors to shape and deliver Wrekin’s strategic vision as both an educational institution and a charitable business. With responsibility for financial strategy, operational leadership, estates, HR, IT, catering and governance, the Bursar ensures that the schools’ resources, people and systems are aligned to support outstanding education and pupil welfare. As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Bursar will provide clear financial leadership, oversee capital projects and risk management, act as Clerk to the Governors, and play a key role in the development and implementation of the Trust’s refreshed whole-school strategic plan

The successful candidate will be a strategic, credible and collaborative leader with strong financial and commercial acumen and experience of managing complex organisations. They will bring proven success in leading multidisciplinary teams, delivering high-quality support services and implementing robust financial and operational controls. Ideally holding a recognised financial qualification, the new Bursar will demonstrate sound judgement, resilience and excellent communication skills, alongside a strong commitment to Wrekin’s values, ethos and safeguarding responsibilities. Experience in the education or charitable sector, or in a comparable environment, will be advantageous, as will the ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders and governors and to lead with integrity, energy and purpose.
