Everything that Thrive at Five does is focused on ensuring children have the strong foundations they need for life and learning. A national charity working in communities facing hardship, in partnership with local authorities, it brings together families, health, education, voluntary and community sector stakeholders to strengthen early years systems and improve outcomes for children from pregnancy to age five. Having grown rapidly in its first five years, Thrive at Five now works across Stoke-on-Trent, Redcar & Cleveland, Middlesbrough and West Dunbartonshire, with a team expected to reach around 60 colleagues by the end of 2026. Its work is rooted in long-term local partnerships, evidence-informed practice and a determination to address the profound inequalities that shape children’s life chances from the earliest years.

Thrive at Five is now seeking a Treasurer to join its Board of Trustees at an important moment in the charity’s development. As the organisation continues to grow and deliver its second five-year strategy, the Treasurer will play a central role in supporting the Board’s stewardship of financial sustainability, governance and risk. Working closely with the co-Chairs, Chief Executive and Finance Director, the postholder will chair the Finance and Risk Committee, provide assurance on financial probity and statutory compliance, and help shape the charity’s long-term financial strategy. This is an opportunity to contribute to an ambitious organisation whose influence and impact continue to expand, ensuring that financial decision-making supports both resilience and future growth. Thrive at Five is currently going through a period of significant growth and therefore experience of scaling charities or businesses would be valuable as would experience of government grants/contracts and outcomes based funding.

The successful candidate will bring a strong commitment to Thrive at Five’s mission and values, together with the strategic insight, judgement and personal credibility required of an effective trustee. They will possess senior leadership experience, highly developed interpersonal skills and a sound understanding of charity governance. Financial expertise, coupled with the ability to analyse complex issues and provide constructive challenge, will be essential. Credible, collaborative and thoughtful in approach, they will be motivated by the opportunity to help shape the future of a rapidly growing organisation and to improve outcomes for children, families and communities across the UK.
