Financial Ombudsman Service
Chief Finance and Risk Officer
Role Introduction
The Financial Ombudsman Service resolves disputes between consumers or small businesses and their financial service providers. As a free and impartial service, we deliver fair outcomes and share insights with consumer groups, industry, regulators and government to help improve the wider financial services ecosystem.
This is an exciting time to join the Financial Ombudsman Service as we modernise how we resolve complaints and respond to change across financial services. With regulatory reform, new technologies and evolving customer needs shaping our work, you will have the opportunity to influence how we develop our service while protecting the fairness, quality and impartiality that underpin it.
We are seeking an outstanding finance and enterprise leader to safeguard our long-term financial sustainability and organisational resilience. As a member of the Executive Team, the Chief Finance and Risk Officer will hold clear executive accountability for financial stewardship, risk and assurance, alongside leadership of commercial activity, operational planning, performance and organisational insight.
You will set our financial strategy and lead planning, forecasting, budgeting and resource allocation, providing trusted advice and constructive challenge to the Board and Executive Team. By bringing together financial, operational, workforce and performance information, you will enable informed decisions about priorities, investment, capacity, cost and risk. You will also lead enterprise risk management and assurance, strengthen procurement and supplier management, and ensure that investment and external expenditure deliver value for money.
You will bring significant senior leadership experience across finance and organisational performance in a large, complex organisation, with a strong record of operating at Executive and Board level. You will have outstanding strategic and analytical capability, translating complex information into clear insight and meaningful action. Experience of enterprise risk, assurance and governance is essential, together with strong commercial judgement and the confidence to challenge established ways of working. You will contribute beyond your portfolio, taking collective responsibility for organisational strategy, transformation and performance.
