British Phonographic Industry
Director of Public Affairs
Role Introduction
The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) is the representative body for the UK’s recorded music sector, championing the interests of hundreds of independent music businesses alongside the UK’s three major record companies. Collectively, its membership accounts for around 85 per cent of legitimate domestic music consumption and one in ten streams worldwide. The BPI promotes British music at home and overseas through initiatives including trade missions, the Music Exports Growth Scheme, The BRIT Awards and The Mercury Prize, while supporting innovation, growth and the long-term success of the UK music industry.
The BPI is now seeking to appoint a Director of Public Affairs, a pivotal leadership role at the heart of the organisation’s engagement with Government, Parliament and wider stakeholders. Reporting to the Chief Executive and joining the Senior Leadership Team, the Director will lead the development and delivery of the BPI’s public affairs and policy strategy, advocating for the interests of UK recorded music and shaping the policy environment in which the sector operates. The successful candidate will ideally be an accomplished public affairs leader with experience of senior-level political engagement, government relations and policy advocacy, with an understanding of the creative industries and the regulatory landscape affecting them. They will need to combine political judgement, strategic thinking and influencing skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across Government, Parliament, industry stakeholders and international partners.
