For more than 70 years, Sue Ryder has provided expert palliative and end of life care alongside bereavement support, reaching hundreds of thousands of people each year across the UK. Through its healthcare services, online support, community programmes and nationwide retail network, the charity combines frontline care with research, campaigning and partnership working to shape national conversations around dying, death and grief. With demand growing and societal attitudes evolving, Sue Ryder is pursuing an ambitious strategy that expands its reach, develops new models of care and strengthens its voice to ensure that everyone can access compassionate, high-quality support at life’s most difficult moments. 

Sue Ryder is now seeking to appoint three Trustees to its Board at a significant point in its development. Trustees play a central role in guiding the charity’s strategic direction, overseeing performance and supporting the Executive Team to deliver high quality, person-centred services. Working collaboratively as part of the Board and its committees, they contribute independent judgement and constructive challenge, helping to ensure strong governance, financial sustainability and continued impact. These appointments come as the organisation seeks to transform experiences of dying and grief across the UK, with particular interest in individuals bringing clinical, financial or commercial expertise. 

The successful candidates will bring senior leadership experience within complex environments, alongside a track record of strategic contribution and sound judgement. Those with clinical expertise will offer deep insight into palliative and end of life care, while candidates from commercial or financial backgrounds will support growth, sustainability and robust stewardship. All Trustees will demonstrate the ability to engage effectively at Board level, navigate complexity and provide balanced challenge. They will share a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, an understanding of or interest in health and social care, and a genuine motivation to improve the lives of people facing dying or grief. Personal credibility, integrity and the ability to work collaboratively while maintaining independence will be essential.
