Role Introduction

London Youth Choirs: Raising Voices | Shaping Lives

Welcome to London Youth Choirs! Our aim is to shape the lives and futures of thousands of young people in London through the power and shared joy of singing. Through our citywide community of 10 choirs and our free school programmes, we bring young people together to find their voice, develop their musical skills, and experience the connection and opportunities that singing can bring.

Who We Are

At London Youth Choirs (LYC), we are musically ambitious and intentionally inclusive. We believe that singing is for everyone. Since 2012, we have reached 15,000 young people, creating a musical pathway for singers aged 7-23. Our members take on the challenge of a rich classical repertoire while exploring diverse contemporary styles, performing on stages ranging from local schools to the Royal Albert Hall and Glastonbury.

We are a change-making organisation dedicated to removing barriers. Today, 98% of our singers benefit from financial assistance, ensuring equitable access for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Our community represents our city: 29% of our singers are of global majority heritage and 10% are neurodiverse.

Our Future

As we embark on our next decade, we are focused on reaching further into communities and ensuring our sustainability. This includes the recent launch of LYC Voices, our innovative commercial trading arm providing talent for major film soundtracks (such as Bridget Jones and Wallace & Gromit), and a groundbreaking new partnership with the London Symphony Orchestra.

The Roles

We are seeking two or three new Trustees to join our Board and help us deliver this next phase of growth.

  • Chair of the Finance & Risk Management Committee: We need an experienced finance professional to provide strategic leadership and ensure long-term sustainability as we stabilise and grow our income. You will work closely with our Executive team to maintain sound financial governance.
  • Trustee(s): We are seeking individuals with expertise in fundraising, equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), youth engagement, or the performing arts. You will play an active role in shaping our strategic direction and championing our mission to be a nurturing space for musical excellence.

About You

Candidates will bring a visible passion for musical excellence and a deep commitment to our values of being intentionally inclusive and joyful. We are looking for senior leaders who can contribute with confidence, integrity, and a collaborative spirit.

LYC is dedicated to achieving greater representation on and off stage. We recognise the benefit of a diverse trustee board that reflects our young people and the community we serve; we therefore warmly welcome applications from candidates from underrepresented backgrounds.
