Role Introduction

For 25 years, Boy Blue has been redefining the stage. Founded in East London in 2001 by Olivier Award winners Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante MBE and Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy MBE, the company has taken hip-hop dance theatre from the streets to the world’s biggest stages. From nurturing grassroots talent through our East London Training Academy to bringing explosive, world-class productions to global audiences, we stand for artistic excellence, authentic cultural expression, and radical inclusion. As we hit our quarter-century milestone, we aren't looking back; we are moving forward and delivering an ambitious programme of UK and international performances, and we need a dynamic, forward-thinking Chair to guide our Board of Trustees into this next era.

This is a significant and outward-facing role, working closely with the Executive and Co-Artistic Directors to shape the future direction of the company, including the development of its next five-year plan. The Chair will provide thoughtful challenge and support, championing the organisation’s values while acting as an ambassador and advocate. There is a particular opportunity to broaden Boy Blue’s reach beyond the subsidised arts sector, strengthening relationships across sponsorship, philanthropy and new strategic partnerships to support long-term sustainability and growth.

The successful candidate will bring strong and inclusive leadership, with the ability to guide and galvanise a Board, and to build trusted relationships across a diverse group of stakeholders. They will have a clear understanding of governance and the role of a Board, alongside a demonstrable ability to think creatively and entrepreneurially. A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is essential, as is an affinity with Boy Blue’s mission and values. The Chair will be a persuasive advocate, comfortable representing our organisation across sectors and helping to raise our profile, while maintaining a grounded and collaborative approach in working with the Executive team and Trustees.
