The Portal Trust
Governor
Role Introduction
The Portal Trust is one of London’s most historic and impactful educational charities, dedicated to transforming the lives of young people across the capital. With a legacy spanning over three centuries, the Trust acts as a vital catalyst for social mobility by ensuring that those from disadvantaged backgrounds can access high-quality educational opportunities. Through strategic grant-making and pioneering partnerships, the organisation supports a diverse range of projects that reflect the ambition and inclusivity of modern London. Proud of its deep-rooted heritage but firmly focused on the future, The Portal Trust is currently preparing to launch a new Grants Strategy that will define its priorities for the remainder of the decade, further strengthening its role as a leading advocate for the city’s youth.
The Portal Trust is now seeking a senior teacher or exceptional education leader from within the maintained sector to join its Board as Governors at a significant moment in the charity’s evolution. This appointment comes as the Trust embarks on an ambitious new chapter, aiming to enhance its impact and broaden its reach. You will bring deep knowledge of the sector and context in which schools are operating and use this perspective to ensure the Trust’s work is impactful and practical. As a Governor, you will provide strategic oversight and governance, playing a crucial role in shaping the direction of the Trust’s work. The time commitment is envisaged to be ten days per year, including preparation time, and the role is unremunerated. This is the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated staff team and expert advisers to foster new connections and learn directly from the communities the Trust serves, helping to realise a vision where every young person in London has the opportunity to thrive.
Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to The Portal Trust on this appointment.
