Genomics England
Director of Strategic Talent & Workforce Planning
Role Introduction
Genomics England sits at the heart of one of the most ambitious shifts in modern healthcare. Wholly owned by the Department of Health and Social Care, it was established to deliver the landmark 100,000 Genomes Project and now plays a central role in embedding whole genome sequencing into routine NHS care. Working at the intersection of healthcare delivery, data, science and innovation, the organisation enables world‑leading research and supports national programmes spanning rare disease, cancer and newborn screening. As genomic medicine scales over the next decade, Genomics England continues to evolve as a national asset with global relevance, driven by a clear mission to turn science into healthcare, using technology, for everyone.
Against this backdrop, Genomics England is seeking a Director of Strategic Talent and Workforce Planning. Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this senior leadership role carries responsibility for ensuring the organisation has the workforce capability, capacity and skills required to deliver its mission at pace and at scale. The Director will lead strategic workforce planning, talent acquisition, learning and development and staffing, translating business priorities into robust workforce strategies and deliverable programmes of work. Working closely with senior leaders across the organisation, they will shape workforce demand forecasts, support organisation design and provide clear, data‑driven advice to the Executive Leadership Team on workforce decisions in a complex and fast‑moving environment.
The successful candidate will bring substantial senior leadership experience across talent acquisition, workforce planning and development. They will balance strategic insight with operational credibility and be able to lead high‑quality people services that are responsive, inclusive and evidence‑based. Strong analytical capability will be essential, alongside the judgement to translate workforce data into clear insight for executive and committee audiences. They will bring a proven interest in using technology, systems and automation, as well as a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Above all, this role calls for a collaborative leader who can build and inspire high‑performing teams, act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders and contribute thoughtfully to an organisation of national importance.
