Restoration & Renewal Delivery Authority
Project Director
Role Introduction
The Palace of Westminster is one of the most iconic buildings in the world and forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, together with Westminster Abbey and Saint Margaret’s Church. It is the home of UK democracy, where Parliament scrutinises the government, makes laws, and debates the country’s most pressing issues. It is also a workplace for thousands and welcomes around one million visitors each year.
The Palace of Westminster needs essential restoration to preserve it for future generations. The Restoration and Renewal (R&R) Programme will deliver a greatly improved building, with better accessibility, more reliable services and enhanced health and safety. In February 2026 the R&R Client Board published ‘Delivering restoration and renewal of the Palace of Westminster: the costed proposals’, which recommended that the Houses take forward two delivery options.
The R&R Delivery Authority, established under the Parliamentary Buildings (Restoration and Renewal) Act 2019, is responsible for designing and delivering this nationally significant programme on behalf of the Houses of Parliament.
We are now seeking an outstanding and experienced Project Director to lead the delivery of a landmark restoration programme of exceptional scale, complexity and public importance. This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for the end-to-end delivery of a major scheme within the R&R Programme from pre-construction design, planning and consents, through procurement and construction, to delivery on site. You will provide strategic direction, ensure rigorous project management, and lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver outcomes of the highest quality in safety, design, sustainability, social value and commercial performance.
The successful candidate will bring a proven track record of delivering major capital projects of significant scale (c.£250m+), alongside exceptional leadership, stakeholder management and commercial skills. You will be adept at working within complex, high-profile environments, engaging confidently with senior stakeholders across Parliament, industry and the wider public sector. Strong financial and contractual expertise, coupled with a deep understanding of construction, planning and development processes, will be essential.
Above all, you will demonstrate the judgement, integrity and collaborative leadership required to operate successfully within the unique constitutional and heritage context of Parliament, while driving forward a programme of national significance.
